Ocean Perch

Hook and line or trawl caught, Iceland

This week's featured fish—which bears the same name as one of our favorite small freshwater fishes—is actually a reddish-orangish rockfish.

Like snapper, rockfish, and other white fish, ocean perch can be sautéed, baked, or broiled. It has a firm texture, and a mild, sweet taste. Crispy-skin lovers, take note: ocean perch has a deliciously thin skin, perfect for pan searing.

Our ocean perch comes from Iceland, which has the only ocean perch fishery certified by the Marine Stewardship Council. It is also certified by Iceland Responsible Fisheries. Low mercury level. Kosher.

Yellowfin (Ahi) Tuna #1

Line caught, Marshall Islands

Go ahead, you deserve it! This sushi-grade ahi (indicated by the "#1") is a real treat. Ahi is a Hawaiian name, meaning "fire." It is distinguished from other tuna by its bright yellow dorsal fin and yellow side stripes.

Yellowfin is red-fleshed, mild, and meaty, and it's more flavorful than albacore because of its higher fat content. We love it in poke but it is also great lightly seared, sautéed, or grilled. Try Sesame Crusted Ahi on a bed of lettuce, tomatoes, and avocados or anything else you have on hand. Who could ask for anything more? Seafood Watch rates it a "Good Alternative." Higher mercury level. Kosher.

Gibsons Steakhouse Seasoning Salt

Ingredients: Salt, spices, dehydrated onion and garlic.

We are selling this product because a dietician recommended it for a friend with heart issues. It contains only salt, spices, and dehydrated onion and garlic, and it is the secret ingredient that some say makes Gibsons steaks so good. Because it is a healthy alternative to straight kosher salt, we wanted to try it.
The verdict? Gibsons proved to be excellent on fish too!
Net weight: 6 ounces for $6.00
