Ahi is a Hawaiian name meaning "fire," and this tuna is distinguished from others by its bright yellow dorsal fin and yellow side stripes. Its flesh is red and it is mild and meaty. It's more flavorful than other tunas because of its higher fat content.
We love ahi in poke (as pictured above), but it is also great lightly seared, sautéed, or grilled and served on a bed of lettuce with tomatoes and avocados. Seafood Watch rates it a "Good Alternative." Higher mercury level. Kosher.
