MSC Swordfish

Hook and line caught, Gulf of Mexico

Swordfish shows off its most distinctive characteristic—its meaty, almost steak-like texture—when it is grilled. But however you cook it, it's awesome! We've even smoked it. It is also an excellent gateway fish for those who need convincing that seafood is a delicious (not to mention healthy) alternative protein! 

Because of new fishery management measures, once-overfished Gulf swordfish is now more sustainable than it has been for decades. The swordfish we are offering is handgear-caught, a fishing method that yields no bycatch (no other creatures are caught and killed in the process). Swordfish can be baked, broiled, grilled, and sautéed. It's MSC certified and Seafood Watch rates it a "Good Alternative.” Higher mercury level.

Monkfish

Gill net or trawl caught, US Atlantic

Monkfish is one of the ugliest fish in the ocean, but we love its flavor and texture! Think poor man's lobster. 

Once widely considered a "trash" fish, monkfish looks positively prehistoric. Its huge, gaping mouth and hideous teeth are complemented by an odd-looking, dangling apparatus on its head that some say looks like a fishing pole and bait. Its tail though is "seafood gold," with a texture and density similar to that of lobster, as mentioned above. We've seen it used in a number of ways—in "lobster" rolls, risotto, and soup, and also braised and bacon-wrapped. Seafood Watch rates it a "Good Alternative." Low mercury level.
